The Safety Alarm is part of Safety Tracking. If you don't move for 5 minutes during a training with Safety Tracking on, Equilab sends your Safety Contacts a notification, so they know where to find you if you need help. This article is for riders and their Safety Contacts.
⭐ This is a Premium feature. The rider needs Premium for the Safety Alarm, but Safety Contacts can use a free Equilab account. See Start Premium or a free trial.
Before you start
Turn on Safety Tracking and add the people who should get the alarm as Safety Contacts. See Set up Safety Tracking and add Safety Contacts.
Check that your phone settings are right for Equilab, and ask your Safety Contacts to check theirs. If battery settings limit Equilab on your phone or theirs, the Safety Alarm might not work well. See Essential Device & App Settings for Equilab to Work Properly.
Your Safety Contacts need notifications for Equilab turned on, in the app and in their phone's settings. The Safety Alarm reaches them as a notification from Equilab.
Keep mobile data on for the whole training.
How the Safety Alarm works
The Safety Alarm turns on automatically when you turn on Safety Tracking. If you stop moving for 5 minutes during a training with Safety Tracking and the Safety Alarm on, all your Safety Contacts get the Safety Alarm. The Safety Alarm is a notification they receive from Equilab. They also get a notification when you start and when you stop your training, so they know when you're out riding and when you've finished.
The Safety Alarm goes only to your Safety Contacts in the Equilab app. People following your Safety Tracking link don't get it: they only see the live map. See Share a live tracking link with anyone.
What to do if you get the Safety Alarm
If you're a Safety Contact and the Safety Alarm arrives:
Open the Safety Alarm notification, or open Equilab and tap Safety Tracking at the top of your Home feed.
Check the rider's live training: their position, their phone's battery, the time since they started and their current gait, or whether the training is finished.
Try to reach the rider. If you can't, use their live position to go to them or to get help.
Turn the Safety Alarm on or off
The Safety Alarm is on as soon as you turn on Safety Tracking. You can turn the Safety Alarm off and keep Safety Tracking on, for example if you often stop during a lesson. Your Safety Contacts can still follow your training live, but they don't get the Safety Alarm.
To turn the Safety Alarm off or back on:
Go to the Track tab and tap Safety Tracking.
Tap the Safety Alarm switch to turn the alarm off or on.
On iPhone, tap Done. On Android, tap the back arrow.
When the Safety Alarm switch is on, your Safety Contacts get the alarm if you don't move for 5 minutes during a training with Safety Tracking.
Is the Safety Alarm fall detection?
The Safety Alarm reacts to no movement, not to a fall. If you fall and can't move, your Safety Contacts get the Safety Alarm after 5 minutes without movement, as long as the Safety Alarm is on. The Safety Alarm goes only to your Safety Contacts, so make sure the people you add can act on it.
The Safety Alarm needs mobile data
Safety Tracking, including the Safety Alarm, needs an internet connection through mobile data for the whole training. Without a connection, your Safety Contacts can't see where you are. When you're back online, your full path and current status appear for them again. Keep this in mind when you ride where there's no mobile signal.
If a Safety Contact didn't get the Safety Alarm, see My Safety Contact doesn't get alerts.
