Equilab can pull in Equestrian and Hiking workouts that you recorded outside the app and turn them into trainings. That works for workouts recorded with an Apple Watch, with the Fitness app on your iPhone, or with another app that saves your trainings to Apple Health. You can import them automatically as they happen, or go back and pick out individual trainings yourself.
Importing from Apple Health is only available on iPhone. It isn't available on Android, and it needs Equilab Premium:
⭐ This is a Premium feature. On the free plan, you can't import trainings from Apple Health, but you can add them by hand as manual trainings. See Start Premium or a free trial.
Which Apple Health workouts you can import
You can import two types of Apple Health workouts into Equilab:
Equestrian workouts
Hiking workouts
Other workout types can't be imported. When you pick trainings yourself, the list shows your workouts from the last 90 days.
Import trainings from Apple Health
To import trainings from Apple Health, first give Equilab access to your Apple Health data. Then pick out trainings one at a time, or turn on automatic import for new workouts.
Turn on Apple Health access
In Equilab, go to Profile > Settings > Apple Health.
Tap the Apple Health access row.
On Apple's permission screen, allow the categories Equilab asks for.
The Apple Health access row
The row now shows On, and your recent Equestrian and Hiking workouts load below it.
If the row shows Off, access wasn't allowed. You can change Equilab's access to your data later in the Health app on your iPhone.
Import an Apple Health training yourself
Once Apple Health access is on, you can import trainings one at a time:
Go to Profile > Settings > Apple Health.
Tap a training that doesn't have a tick.
Confirm the import.
On the after-training screen, choose the horse you rode. You can also add a note or gaits.
Tap Save.
Confirm the import
The training is now saved in Equilab and has a tick in the Apple Health list. A training with a tick is already in Equilab and can't be imported again. If you delete an imported training in Equilab, its tick goes away and you can import it again.
Import new Apple Health workouts automatically
With automatic import, Equilab imports new Apple Health workouts as they happen:
Go to Profile > Settings > Apple Health.
Under Automatic import workouts, turn on Equestrian, Hiking or both.
Automatic import workouts
From now on, new workouts of that type are imported automatically. If Equilab is open, the after-training screen opens so you can choose the horse and save the training. If Equilab isn't open, you get a notification.
Workouts from before you turned on automatic import aren't imported. To bring in older workouts from the last 90 days, pick them out yourself in the Apple Health list.
The Equestrian and Hiking switches work independently. To stop automatic import, turn both off.
What comes over from Apple Health
A training imported from Apple Health gets its date, time, duration and distance from Apple Health. This is what to expect for the rest:
Route: Hiking workouts include the route for the map. Equestrian workouts don't have a route.
Gaits: an imported training never has walk, trot or canter data, whether you import it yourself or automatically. Apple Health doesn't provide the movement data Equilab needs to detect gaits. You can still add gaits by hand afterward.
Horse: you choose the horse on the after-training screen when the training is imported.
Average speed: an imported Equestrian training may show an average speed of 0, even though it shows a distance.
If an Apple Health training didn't import
If a training from Apple Health is missing in Equilab, check these in order:
Check your Premium. Importing from Apple Health needs an active Premium subscription. See I paid, but Premium isn't showing.
Check Apple Health access. In Profile > Settings > Apple Health, the access row should show On. If it shows Off, change Equilab's access in the Health app on your iPhone.
Check the workout type. Only Equestrian and Hiking workouts can be imported.
Check the date. The list only shows workouts from the last 90 days, and automatic import only brings in workouts recorded after you turned it on.
Check the Calendar tab. If several workouts were imported at the same moment, Equilab may open the after-training screen or notify you for only one of them. The others are still saved and show in your calendar.
If you'd like to import training files instead, please refer to our guide on How to import training files to Equilab.
If you can't import a training from Apple Health, you can add it to Equilab by hand. See How to add a manual training.
