Set up Equilab on your Android watch so you can start and stop your trainings and see your stats on your wrist. With Premium, you can also record with only your watch and leave your phone behind. Equilab works on watches that run Wear OS, together with an Android phone. For an Apple Watch, see Set up Equilab on your Apple Watch.
Which Android watches work with Equilab
Equilab works on watches that run Wear OS, including:
Google Pixel Watch (all models)
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and newer
OnePlus Watch 2 and newer
Xiaomi Watch 2 and Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro
Other Wear OS watches
To connect the watch to your Equilab account, you need an Android phone with Equilab.
Besides Apple Watch, Equilab works only on watches that run Wear OS. It doesn't work on Garmin, Fitbit, Huawei or Amazfit watches, or on older Samsung models: Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Watch Active 2 and earlier. See Can I use Equilab on Garmin, Fitbit or Wear OS watches?
Install Equilab on your Android watch
You install Equilab on your Android phone and on your watch. The watch connects to your Equilab account through the app on your phone.
Before you start
You need an Android phone with Equilab. A Wear OS watch can't be used with Equilab on an iPhone.
Check that your watch is paired with your phone over Bluetooth.
Recording with your watch and phone together (Remote mode) is free. Recording with the watch alone, without your phone (Standalone), needs Premium.
To set up Equilab on your phone and watch:
Install Equilab on your Android phone and log in.
On your watch, open the Google Play Store.
Search for Equilab and tap Install.
Open Equilab on your phone and on your watch.
Equilab on your phone then finds your watch and connects to it by itself. Once your watch is connected, you can start tracking rides from it.
If Equilab doesn't connect to your watch
If your watch and phone are paired over Bluetooth but Equilab doesn't find your watch by itself, or your watch shows a connection code, connect the watch from your phone:
Open Equilab on your phone.
Go to Profile > Settings > Smartwatch.
Follow the steps on the screen to connect your watch.
Once your watch is connected, you can start tracking rides from it.
Keep Equilab running on your watch
To make sure your trainings are tracked correctly, allow Equilab to run in the background on your Android watch. If the watch's system closes Equilab while you ride, tracking stops.
Depending on your watch brand, you may also need to turn off battery optimization for Equilab on your watch.
Remote or Standalone: what each mode records
The table below compares the two ways to record with your Android watch.
Remote mode | Standalone | |
Your phone | Comes with you on the ride | Stays behind |
Plan | Free | Premium |
Saved in the training | Everything, including gaits | Time, distance, average speed and route, no gaits |
Safety Tracking | Yes, with Premium | No |
Record in Remote mode (with your phone)
Remote mode is free for all riders. Your phone comes with you on the ride, and you start and stop the training from your watch.
Open Equilab on your phone and on your watch.
Start tracking on your watch.
Ride with your phone on you.
When you're done, stop the training on your watch.
You then find the training in Equilab on your phone.
During the ride, your watch shows your live stats, such as time, distance and average speed. Swipe right to see your horse's gaits in real time. With Premium, the watch also shows when Safety Tracking is active.
Record without your phone (Standalone)
With Standalone mode, you track rides with only your Android watch, so you can leave your phone at the stable. The training saves the time, distance, average speed and route. Gaits aren't tracked or shown, and Safety Tracking isn't available. When you want gaits or want your Safety Contacts to follow your training, turn off Standalone mode and take your phone along, so your watch records in Remote mode.
⭐ Standalone is a Premium feature. On the free plan, you record in Remote mode with your phone along. See Start Premium or a free trial.
On your phone, open Equilab and go to Profile > Settings.
Turn on Standalone mode.
At the stable, open Equilab on your watch and start tracking.
When you're done, stop the training on your watch.
Keep Equilab open on your watch until the training has uploaded.
If your watch has an internet connection, the training uploads by itself. If it doesn't, the training uploads the next time your watch reconnects to your phone. The training then shows in Equilab on your phone.
Edit a training after the ride
To add a note, choose the horse, change the ground type or make other changes to a training you recorded with your Android watch, open the training in Equilab on your phone and tap Edit. See Edit a saved ride.
If something went wrong with your Android watch
Open the section that matches what happened.
If the training stopped or was interrupted
If the training stopped or was interrupted
If a training on your Android watch stopped early, check these in order.
Allow Equilab to run in the background on your watch.
If your watch uses battery optimization, turn it off for Equilab on the watch.
In Remote mode, also check your phone's settings: see My ride stopped recording or was cut short and Keep Equilab running on your Android phone: settings by brand.
If the training doesn't show in Equilab
If the training doesn't show in Equilab
For a Standalone training, keep Equilab open on your watch until the upload is done. If your watch has no internet connection, the training uploads the next time your watch reconnects to your phone, so open Equilab on both. Then look for the training on your phone: in the feed on the Home tab, under Trends > All trainings, in the Calendar tab or under Profile > Trainings.
If the training still doesn't show, see A ride or horse is missing.
If the training has no gaits
If the training has no gaits
A Standalone training never has gaits. To get gaits, turn off Standalone mode in Profile > Settings on your phone and take your phone along. If a Remote mode training has no gaits, see My ride has no gaits.
If nothing helped, contact support with the date and time of the training, whether you used Remote or Standalone, and what you've already tried.
