Devices will sometimes shut off the Equilab app unexpectedly, as tracking and transmitting GPS and motion data simultaneously can drain a battery over time. To help prevent your device from shutting down Equilab without warning and preventing the app from tracking your entire ride, please take the following steps:
Prevent unintentional closure in background
- Open the Settings app (you will find it on the home screen or apps tray)
- Scroll down and click on Device Care
- Tap on Battery options
- Select the App Power Management
- Tap on Put unused apps to sleep in the Advanced Settings section
- Select the slider to Off
- Go back one screen, and select "Never Sleeping Apps"
- Select "+"
- Select Equilab from the list of apps
- Press "Add"
Enable Background app use
- Swipe down once from the top of the screen and tap the gear/cog icon
Scroll down and press the Apps button
Select Equilab from the list of apps (they should be organized alphabetically)
Scroll down and select Battery or App Battery Usage from the app info page
Select the Unrestricted option to prevent Equilab from being limited in the background
Limit battery usage:
Often times interruptions occur because your device is trying hard to preserve its battery life. You can take the following steps to reduce Equilab's battery usage - and therefore prevent interruptions - without materially impacting your ride tracking:
- Keep your phone locked (screen off/dark) while riding
- If you need to open your phone, avoid using the map screen when possible. Keeping Equilab on the training stats screen (that shows time, distance, speed, and gaits) requires less battery
- Close and kill other apps that you are not using while riding
- Turn on airplane mode (note that doing so will pause any inbound/outbound messages, notifications, or calls)
The steps above should prevent most interruptions. However, if make those updates and are stlil experiencing them, we recommend taking the steps listed below as well.
Ensure data removal is disabled
- Open the Settings app (you will find it on the home screen or apps tray)
- Select the option for App Permissions
- Choose Equilab from the list of apps
- Ensure the switch for "Remove permissions and free up space" is turned off
