Some Android phones close Equilab in the background to save battery, so a training stops early. This article shows where each phone brand keeps the settings that let Equilab keep running for the whole ride.
Before you start: set up your phone as described in Essential Device & App Settings for Equilab to Work Properly. On Android, these are the settings to check:
Location for Equilab set to Allow only while using the app, with Use precise location on
Equilab's battery set to Unrestricted
Power saving off
Put Unused Apps to Sleep off
Data saver off
Pause app activity if unused off for Equilab
Notifications on for Equilab, so Safety Tracking alerts reach you
Before every ride, also keep mobile data on and turn Wi-Fi off. These settings fix most interrupted trainings. Menu names can differ a little between models and Android versions.
Samsung
Samsung phones have two battery settings that can close Equilab: Equilab's own battery setting and Put Unused Apps to Sleep. Change both with the steps below, then check Power saving and the other Samsung settings at the end of this section.
Set Equilab's battery to Unrestricted
Open Settings > Apps and tap Equilab.
Tap Battery.
Choose Unrestricted, not Optimized. This turns off battery optimization for Equilab.
Stop your Samsung phone from putting Equilab to sleep
Open Settings > Battery and Device Care > Battery > Background usage limits.
Turn off Put Unused Apps to Sleep.
If Equilab is in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps, remove it from the list.
Check the other Samsung settings
Open Settings > Battery and Device Care > Battery (or Settings > Battery) and turn off Power saving.
Open Settings > Connections > Data usage > Data saver and turn Data saver off.
Open Settings > Apps > Equilab and turn off Pause app activity if unused (called Remove permissions and free up space on some phones). On some phones, this switch is under Settings > Apps > Equilab > Permissions.
Samsung phones can switch these settings back after an Android update or after you delete and reinstall Equilab. Check them again after an update, or if trainings start stopping again.
Other brands
Other Android brands have the same kinds of battery settings, but they can have different names or sit in different menus. Open the section for your phone's brand.
If you have a Google Pixel
If you have a Google Pixel
Google Pixel phones use the standard Android settings:
Open Settings > Apps > Equilab > App battery usage and choose Unrestricted.
Open Settings > Battery > Battery Saver and turn Battery Saver off.
Open Settings > Apps > Equilab and turn off Pause app activity if unused. On some phones, this switch is under Permissions.
Open Settings > Network & internet > Data Saver and turn Data Saver off.
Menu names can differ slightly between Pixel models and Android versions. If you can't find a setting, search for its name in Settings.
If you have a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone
If you have a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones can close Equilab in the background, especially on trainings longer than 20 minutes. Change these settings:
Open Settings, go to your list of apps and tap Equilab.
Turn on Autostart. You can also find it in the Security app > Permissions > Autostart: find Equilab in the list and turn it on.
Tap Battery saver and choose No restrictions. On some models, this is in the Security app > Battery > App battery saver.
Open Settings > Additional settings > Battery & performance (on some models, Settings > Battery & performance). Open Manage apps' battery usage and turn power saving modes off.
On the same screen, if you see Saving power in the background, tap Choose apps > Equilab and set Background settings to No restrictions.
Lock Equilab in your recent apps: open Equilab, open the recent apps screen and drag the Equilab card down to lock it. Equilab then keeps running when you clear your recent apps. To unlock it, drag it down again.
Some models also have Settings > Advanced settings > Battery manager. There, set Power plan to Performance and add Equilab to Protected apps. On these models, also open Settings > Apps > Equilab > Battery and turn on Keep running after screen off.
If you have a OnePlus phone
If you have a OnePlus phone
OnePlus phones have battery optimization plus their own extra optimization settings. Change these for Equilab:
Open Settings > Battery > Battery optimization. Switch the list to All apps from the menu at the top right, tap Equilab and choose Don't optimize. On some models, Battery optimization is under Settings > Apps > the gear icon > Special access.
In Battery optimization, tap the three-dots menu > Advanced optimization and turn off Deep optimization. On models older than the OnePlus 6, turn off Enhanced optimization instead. This also helps if your phone loses the Bluetooth connection to a watch or sensor.
On the OnePlus 6 and newer, also turn off Sleep standby optimization in Advanced optimization. It switches off network connections at the times your phone thinks you're asleep.
If your phone has App Auto-Launch, allow Equilab there so it isn't stopped from running in the background.
Lock Equilab in your recent apps: open Equilab, open the recent apps screen and tap the lock on the Equilab card.
OnePlus phones can switch battery optimization back on by themselves. Locking Equilab in your recent apps helps, but check the Battery optimization setting again now and then.
On some OnePlus phones, swiping an app away on the recent apps screen closes it completely. Don't swipe Equilab away while you're tracking a training.
If you have an Oppo or Realme phone
If you have an Oppo or Realme phone
Oppo and Realme phones have their own battery settings for each app. Change these for Equilab:
In Settings, open the app info page for Equilab.
Under Power Saver (or Battery), turn on Allow Background Running.
Turn on Allow Auto Startup.
Lock Equilab in your recent apps: open Equilab, open the recent apps screen and pull the Equilab card down to lock it.
Before every ride, open Settings > Battery and make sure Power Saver and Smart Power Saver are both off.
If you have a Huawei or Honor phone
If you have a Huawei or Honor phone
Huawei and Honor phones often have more than one battery saver. Change every setting below that your phone has:
Open Settings > Battery > App launch (called Launch on some models).
Find Equilab, set it to Manage manually instead of automatically, and make sure all its switches are on.
Let Equilab ignore battery optimization: open Settings > Apps > Advanced > Ignore optimizations, switch the list to All apps and set Equilab to Allow. On some models, this is under Settings > Apps > Special access > Ignore battery optimization.
Some models also have Settings > Advanced settings > Battery manager. There, set Power plan to Performance and add Equilab to Protected apps. On these models, also open Settings > Apps > Equilab > Battery, turn off Power-intensive prompt and turn on Keep running after screen off.
If you have a Nokia phone
If you have a Nokia phone
Nokia phones use the standard Android settings in Essential Device & App Settings for Equilab to Work Properly. Some older Nokia phones also have a system app called Power saver that closes apps in the background. On phones with Android 9 or newer, the manufacturer has turned it off. If your Nokia still has it, stop it:
Open Settings > Apps > See all apps.
Tap the menu in the top-right corner and choose Show system.
Find Power saver in the list, tap it and tap Force stop.
Power saver stays stopped for a while, but it starts again by itself later. If trainings start stopping again, repeat these steps before your ride.
If trainings still stop on your Nokia, the independent site dontkillmyapp.com lists settings for more Nokia models.
If you have a Meizu phone

Open Settings > Apps > Equilab > Battery and turn on Keep running after screen off.
