Check these phone and app settings once before your first ride, so Equilab can record your whole training accurately. Refused permissions and battery savers are a common reason for trainings that stop early or look wrong.
When Equilab asks for permissions, such as location, allow them. If you refused one, turn it on with the steps for your phone below.
If you have an iPhone
Check these settings on your iPhone once:
Location: go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Equilab. Choose While Using the App and turn on Precise Location. You don't need Always: with While Using the App, Equilab keeps recording when your screen is locked.
Low Power Mode: go to Settings > Battery and turn off Low Power Mode.
Low Data Mode: go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options (on some iPhones: Mobile Service > Mobile Data Options) and turn off Low Data Mode.
Background App Refresh: go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and turn it on for Equilab.
Notifications (needed for Safety Tracking alerts and monthly training summaries): in Equilab, go to Profile, tap the cog icon, open Reminders and Notifications and turn everything on. Then check that notifications are allowed in your iPhone's Settings > Notifications > Equilab.
If you have an Android phone
When you first tap Start tracking, Equilab may ask you to allow location access and change your battery settings. Allow both. If Power saving is on, Equilab also asks you to turn it off before tracking starts.
Check these settings on your Android phone once. Menu names differ between brands and Android versions. If you can't find a setting, see Keep Equilab running on your Android phone: settings by brand.
Location: go to Settings > Location > App permissions > Equilab (or tap Equilab under Recent access). Choose Allow only while using the app and turn on Use precise location. You don't need Allow all the time: Equilab keeps recording when your screen is locked.
Battery: go to Settings > Apps > Equilab > Battery and choose Unrestricted.
Power saving: go to Settings > Battery and turn off Power saving.
Sleeping apps: go to Settings > Battery and Device Care > Battery > Background usage limits and turn off Put Unused Apps to Sleep. On some phones these menus are called Device Care and App Power Management.
Data saver: go to Settings > Connections > Data usage > Data saver and make sure it's off.
Unused app settings: go to Settings > Apps > Equilab (on some phones: Settings > Apps > Equilab > Permissions) and turn off Pause app activity if unused. On older phones, this setting is called Remove permissions and free up space.
Notifications (needed for Safety Tracking alerts and monthly training summaries): in Equilab, go to Profile, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, then Settings > Notifications, and turn everything on. Then check that notifications are on in your phone's Settings > Apps > Equilab > Notifications.
Before every ride
Check these before each ride, on iPhone and Android:
Keep mobile data on for the whole ride. Safety Tracking needs it to send live updates to your Safety Contacts.
On Android, turn off Wi-Fi before you start (swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the Wi-Fi icon), so weak or changing Wi-Fi at the stable doesn't interrupt the training. Turn Wi-Fi back on after the ride.
Carry your phone tight against your body. A phone that moves around in a pocket records inaccurate gaits. See Where to carry your phone while riding.
Start with a well-charged phone. See Make your battery last longer on a ride.
Ready for your first ride? See How to record a ride.
If a training still stops or looks wrong
If a training stops early, see My ride stopped recording or was cut short. If the track or distance looks wrong, see The GPS track or distance looks wrong.
