How to use the Polar Equine Heart Rate Sensor with Equilab

Modified on Fri, 20 Dec at 1:46 PM

Equilab's integration with Polar allows our Premium users to monitor their horses' heart rates in real time while tracking their rides.

Currently, the Polar integration only works for iOS devices and supports the Polar H10 sensors.

Connecting the Polar Sensor:

  1. Fasten the sensor to your horse, making sure it is properly situated (per Polar's instructions);

  2. Open the Settings page from your Equilab app (via the orange cog icon in the top-right section of your Profile tab);

  3. Tap on the "Polar Heart Rate sensor" option;

  4. Press the orange "Connect to Polar HR Sensor";

  5. Enable Bluetooth permissions for Equilab by following the on-screen steps;

  6. Go back to the "Polar Heart Rate sensor" tab in the Equilab app and ensure that your sensor is connected;
  7. Start tracking your ride with your horse's heart rate;

You will not be able to connect a sensor during a training, so wait to start tracking until you've paired the H10 device to your phone.

Once you start tracking with a sensor connected, you will be able to see your horse's current heart rate on your tracking timer screen. Then after you save your training, you'll be able to see comprehensive heart rate data for your horse in the Detailed Stats and on the Training Summary screen.

Troubleshooting connection issues:

  • If you're seeing the "Please enable Bluetooth" message:

    • Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled from the Control Center on your iPhone by swiping down from the top of your screen and tapping on the ᛒ Bluetooth icon (when it is enabled, the icon will turn blue);

    • Then nagivate back to the Polar Heart Rate page in Equilab's Settings to connect your sensor.

We hope this information helps you jumpstart your and your horse's riding routines. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. Our team is always here to help.
