Addition of Public Trails in the UK and US to Equilab's website

Modified on Thu, 12 Jun at 1:59 PM

Equilab is expanding the availability of trail maps beyond our app by making them available online, so that riders who don't yet have Equilab can discover trails and explore them with the app. Ahead of this change, we want to provide an important reminder about trail privacy (see the "What This Means For You" section below).

Background

In May 2024, we released our Trails feature that allows members of our community to add trails / bridleways they they rode with Equilab to be saved for themselves (and others) to ride again. To date, the only way to view these trails was within the Equilab app.

We have always provided the ability for users to determine whether they save the trails / bridleways as Public (available for anyone to see) or Private (only visible to themselves and friends they share the trails with, as a Premium subscriber). To prevent any accidental confusion or trespassing, we continue to strongly recommend that any trails on private property be marked as Private.

What's Changing

Beginning the week of June 16-20, 2025, all public trails located in the United Kingdom and United States will be discoverable through Equilab's website. Visitors to the site will have the ability to view trails on a map and search for them, regardless of whether they have the Equilab app.

By making this update, we hope to help new users discover Equilab and its Trails feature, so that we can continue to increase the number of trails available on our platform. We hope this will enable users across both of these nations to discover more great places to ride.

Importantly, no information tied to any specific user will be displayed with these trails online.

What This Means for You

In order to ensure that trails on private land do not appear on our website as publicly discoverable, we strong recommend that you review the trails you have added within Equilab as Public. If you feel that it would be better for any of them to not be discoverable via our website and thus internet search (e.g. Google), please change them to be Private.

The steps for making such changes are as follows:

  1. Open the Equilab app
  2. Navigate to the Track tab
  3. Press the bookmark icon in the top left corner
  4. Identify any trails in your "Created Trails" list that should be Private
  5. Tap on the trail
  6. Press the three dots in the top right corner
  7. Select Edit
  8. Toggle the visibility option at the bottom to Private
  9. Press Save

Thank you for your assistance in making sure everyone stays safe on trails added in Equilab.
